FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – HoneyBaked Hockey Club announced today that it has promoted Matt Romaniski to Director of Player Personnel for its 18U, 16U and 15 Only (15O) age groups and extended his contract as Head Coach of the 15O team through the 2027-28 season, following his team’s championship run at the International Silver Stick Whitby AAA tournament.
“Romo brings energy, experience, and a true player-first mindset to HoneyBaked,” said Phil Osaer, Director of Athlete Development. “He’s proven he can build top youth teams, and you see it every day in the way he runs high-level, development-focused practices, partners with our strength coaches, and mentors our players. I’m excited to watch him continue to grow as Head Coach of our 15O team and in his new Director of Player Personnel role as he builds our 15O, 16U and 18U teams.”
Under Romaniski’s leadership, HoneyBaked’s 15O team captured the Whitby Silver Stick title, one of the most respected events in North American youth hockey. The invitational tournament in Whitby, Ontario, brings together many of the top AAA teams from across the United States and Canada, providing a strong benchmark of where a team stands on the national stage.
As Director of Player Personnel for the 18U, 16U and 15O teams, Romaniski will oversee the process of identifying, recruiting, and retaining top talent across HoneyBaked’s oldest age groups. He will utilize USA Hockey’s Tier I vertical integration system to maximize player development and team success, ensuring a clear, aligned pathway for athletes as they progress into 15O and older levels.
In addition to his expanded responsibilities, Romaniski will continue as Head Coach of one of the HoneyBaked teams for which he is responsible for under a two-year extension covering the 2026–27 and 2027–28 seasons, providing stability and continuity for HoneyBaked’s top age groups.
“I’m grateful for the trust HoneyBaked has placed in me,” Romaniski said. “Our 15O group’s performance at Silver Stick showed what can happen when talented players buy in, compete for each other, and focus on the little details every day. I’m excited to keep coaching this team and to take on a larger role overseeing player personnel for 15O, 16U and 18U. Our goal is simple: build a consistent, high-performance environment that helps our players grow, earn opportunities at the next level, and love the game along the way.”
