Congratulations to our 15-Only Tier 1 Youth team on capturing the 2021 USA Hockey National Championship out at the Children’s Health StarCenter in Texas on Monday!

In a rematch of Friday’s shootout loss against the Florida Alliance, HoneyBaked came out on top this time when it mattered most – in convincing fashion – with a 6-3 win. Nathan Murray led the way with a hat trick and assist, while Charlie Cerrato posted a goal and three helpers. Reid Daavettila and Tyler Borgula also scored for HoneyBaked, while Kenneth Augustine stopped 31 of 34 shots to backstop the Hogs to the win.

HoneyBaked came out strong, scoring three goals in the first 9:33, and scoring just eight seconds into the second period. The squad took a 6-1 lead into the second intermission before allowing a pair to Florida in the third period.

HoneyBaked opened the tournament Wednesday with a 2-0 shutout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, with Daavettila and Murray scoring, and Augustine earning the shutout.

The boys followed it up with another shutout on Thursday, this time a 1-0 overtime win over the Rhode Island Saints – Jackson Foddrill potting the deciding goal in that one just 28 seconds into the extra frame.

Friday marked the only loss for HB, the aforementioned 2-1 shootout loss to the Alliance, with Oskar Siemionek stopping 27 of 28 shots he faced in regulation and overtime for HB, and Brandon Hilton scoring in the third period.

Saturday marked the first of two straight wins over Chicago teams, as HB first topped the Young Americans, 3-2, on goals by Aiden Connell and Daavettila.

The Chicago Mission entered the semifinal against HoneyBaked undefeated and averaging a tournament-best 4.4 goals per game. HB kept the Mission below that mark and it led to a 4-3 win. Goals came from Anthony Paperi, Jack Willson, Cerrato and Hilton, with Augustine turning aside 28 shots.
