Congratulations to our 14U Tier 2 Girls on capturing the 2021 USA Hockey National Championship in Denver, Colorado!

Monday morning’s national title game featured an opening-tournament matchup against the Illinois-based Glenview Stars.

HB Hockey took a 2-0 lead in the first period off a pair of Chloe Makinson goals (assists to Anna Schultz and Elyssa Sharma). Just 2:21 into the middle frame, Olivia Lorelli extended the HB lead to three. While Glenview struck less than a minute later, HB held steady the rest of the way en route to the win. Netminder Camryn Schwartz turned away 10 of 11 shots she faced.

Makinson tied for the tournament scoring lead with nine points.

In their tournament opener on Thursday, HB Hockey topped Glenview in overtime, 3-2, with Lorelli scoring the winner just 50 seconds into the extra frame.

Friday saw the girls take a commanding 8-0 decision over the Tri-City Eagles (MD), with Schwartz earning the shutout and three-point efforts from Vivian Eckerman, Meghan McLucklie, Milena Hovis, Lorelli and Makinson. Mary Snyder, Julia Richardson, and Reese McMahon also scored in the contest.

The offense was on display in the next game, as well, as HB took a 7-4 win over the Princeton Tiger Lillies (NJ) Saturday morning. Down 3-2 after the first period, HB stormed back with a three-goal second period and added two more in the third. Snyder, McLuckie, Richardson, Hovis and McMahon each recorded two-point games.

Four unanswered goals in the first two periods on Sunday was enough to hold on for a 4-2 win over the Anchorage North Stars (AK). Goals came from McLuckie (2), Schultz and McMahon.

In the semi final, it was a tightly-contested game that saw no scoring through the first two periods. Lauren Farris opened the scoring at 1:52 of the third period (from Schultz and Makinson) before Krivo (CO) struck back at 7:41 of the period, sending the game into overtime. At 9:56, Schultz was the hero, sending HB to the championship game.
